Çepo (Nezir Akkul) works primarily with painting and drawing, developing a reduced visual language that moves between abstraction and figuration and remains closely tied to the motif of landscape. Built through repetitive gestures and restrained painterly interventions, his works appear sparse yet emotionally charged. Subtle shifts in colour, line, and surface create a sense of suspension, evoking pause, endurance, and quiet resistance. Like the shift in a landscape that slowly unfolds in time, Çepo’s series of works merge into one another, creating a continuous narrative.

In Endless cut series No: 3 (2025), a composite yet plain vista with a musty sunset glances. The composition reads as a distilled landscape in which openness is interrupted by a precise incision, creating tension between stillness and disturbance, duration and rupture. What seems like a serene landscape quickly turns into a path with obstacles. Rather than depicting landscape as a scene to be viewed, Çepo treats it as a field shaped by political processes and as a carrier of collective memory. Çepo understands landscape not as a backdrop, but as a condensed site in which political experience, memory, and affect are held in a delicate balance through minimal mean. Drawing inspiration from T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land, in which the poet evokes the desolation left in the wake of war, Çepo approaches the terrain as a silent witness to history.
