Selçuk Artut and Sezin Romi gave a lecture titled Tracing Teoman Madra: Early History of Multimedia Art in Turkey at ZKM | Center for Art and Media on November 27, 2025.
The talk focused on a long-term research and archival project dedicated to pioneering media artist Teoman Madra (1931–2025), a key but long underexamined figure in the history of media art in Turkey. Madra’s career, spanning from the mid-1960s through the 2010s, bridges post-war analogue experimentation and the rise of digital practices, encompassing experimental photography, multimedia performance, video, and computer-generated art.
During the lecture, Artut will address Madra’s practice through the lenses of media archaeology and archival research, while Romi will discuss critical approaches to interpreting and making archives accessible to contemporary audiences.
