Sim Chi Yin is participating in Future Archives / Archive Futures, a group exhibition organized by Kunstverein Tiergarten in Berlin. Curated by Julia Heunemann, Lusin Reinsch, and Ulrike Riebel, the exhibition is on view at rk – Galerie für zeitgenössische Kunst from October 8 to December 18, 2026.
The exhibition approaches archives not merely as repositories of the past, but as infrastructures that shape possible futures. As digital databases, algorithmic systems, and AI-generated images, texts, and voices transform how knowledge is preserved, circulated, and interpreted, the boundaries between document and construction, and between historical evidence and synthetic memory, are becoming increasingly blurred. Future Archives / Archive Futures explores new forms of remembering, oral transmission, and knowledge production emerging from these shifts. It also questions whose stories are preserved, who determines what enters the archive, and for whom these records are maintained, opening up possibilities for more decentralized, polyphonic, and collaborative approaches to memory.
