Presented by Sharjah Art Foundation, Perform Sharjah returns for its fifth edition from 11 October to 29 November 2026. Taking place across various venues in Sharjah, the programme brings together performances that approach the body as a site of artistic inquiry, exploring themes of movement, memory, labour and play.
Sim Chi Yin is participating in the programme with Longings, Returns (2026), a multimedia performance and installation taking place on 22 November 2026 at Khalid Bin Mohammed School in Sharjah. Drawing on the history of more than 30,000 people forcibly deported from British-ruled Malaya to China between 1948 and 1960, the work considers the sea as a space of passage and memory. It explores the intergenerational impact of forced migration and seeks to bring erased histories back into familial and collective memory.
