Isaac Chong Wai in Liquid Body, Leaking Frontier

Isaac Chong Wai is participating in Liquid Body, Leaking Frontier, a group exhibition on view at Goethe-Institut China in Beijing from September 11, 2026, to January 17, 2027. Curated by Tang Yifei and supported by 69 Art Campus, the exhibition is presented within the framework of the 798 Teahouse project.

Taking as its point of departure letters written by Sigmund Freud during the 1920 Spanish flu pandemic, the exhibition examines how individual grief, vulnerability, and uncertainty persist in the aftermath of collective upheaval. Bringing together works on paper, sculptures, installations, and videos by nine artists, it explores the body as a site that carries memory and registers the traces of social transformation.

The body, time, and the traces they leave behind are central to Isaac Chong Wai’s practice. Working across performance, video, installation, photography, and drawing, the artist investigates social phenomena and interpersonal relationships. Translating emotions, tensions, and memories into performative forms, Chong examines the vulnerability and resilience of the body within social systems.

Liquid Body, Leaking Frontier approaches the body not as a fixed and closed boundary, but as a permeable and constantly changing space between the individual and society, memory and the present, and human beings and their environment. The exhibition considers how invisible forms of violence and prolonged vulnerability become inscribed in the body and perception, while reimagining resilience as a process of transformation and adaptation rather than a return to a previous state.
