Isaac Chong Wai is participating in Die Mütter, the exhibition bringing his work into dialogue with that of Käthe Kollwitz. Curated by Christine Nippe, the exhibition is on view at Kulturhaus Schwartzsche Villa in Berlin from 9 October 2026 to 31 January 2027.
Exploring the relationship between mothers and their children in times of war and conflict, the exhibition examines themes of loss, grief and memory through an intergenerational dialogue between the two artists. Kollwitz’s works addressing grief and loss following the death of her son Peter in the First World War are presented alongside Chong Wai’s two-channel video installation The Mothers (2022). The work features the artist and a group of performers forming a protective structure as they sing lullabies and dirges from different cultures. The exhibition also includes other works by Chong Wai that explore the historical traces of violence, vulnerability and collective memory.
