Simon Wachsmuth participates alongside Tom Früchtl and René Wirths in Ich bin nicht Stiller!, a group exhibition on view at KIMGO Project Space in Berlin from October 9 to 30, 2026.
Taking its title from the opening sentence of Max Frisch’s 1954 novel Stiller, the exhibition revisits the genre of still life through the concepts of identity and representation. Referencing René Magritte’s proposition “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” (This is not a pipe), it emphasizes the distinction between an image and the object it represents, while playfully questioning the relationship between subject, object, and predicate. The exhibition also challenges the symbolic associations of still life with vanitas and transience.
At the center of Wachsmuth’s practice are the material traces of memory and the ways history is transmitted, shaped, and transformed through monuments, documents, and images. His work examines the fragility of historical narratives and the construction of reality.
