Sim Chi Yin commissioned by Storefront for Art and Architecture for a solo exhibition on Homelands, in New York
Homelands is a major long-term research cycle and exhibition series organized by the Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York. Spanning 2025–2026, the project examines the political dimensions of memory and the ways in which dominant narratives obscure, distort, or erase lived experience. Through the work of leading artists and architects, Homelands explores how connections to place can be dismantled, reconstructed, and reimagined.
Unfolding across four exhibitions, two performances, a public program, radio series, publication, symposium, and a series of traveling research summits, Homelands will commission new projects by Sertão Negro, Alison Nguyen, Thandi Loewenson, Danielle Dean, Sim Chi Yin, and Petrit Halilaj + Ars Atelie. By engaging with memory as a tool for reclaiming space—and as a means of asserting or resisting power—the cycle invites audiences to reflect on what it means to remember and to be remembered.
As part of the year-long program, Sim Chi Yin will present a new commissioned installation and performance scheduled for August 2026, contributing to the project’s exploration of contested histories, landscape, and collective memory.
