Carlos Aires at the exhibition Resistance. The Power of the Image at S.M.A.K.
As part of EUROPALIA ESPAÑA, S.M.A.K. presents the group exhibition Resistance. The Power of the Image, bringing together around twenty Spanish artists to explore how images have shaped the struggle for democratic values from the Spanish Civil War to today.
Focusing on two pivotal moments—the resistance leading up to the end of Franco’s dictatorship and the recent decade marked by renewed civil protest—the exhibition highlights how artists have used visual culture to challenge injustice and defend democratic principles.
Resistance. The Power of the Image, commissioned by EUROPALIA ESPAÑA and curated by Marta Ramos-Yzquierdo and Sam Steverlynck, will be on view between November 29, 2025 and March 8, 2026.
