Fatoş İrwen at The Sky Was Candy exhibition at Arter
Fatoş İrwen is participating in The Sky Was Candy, on view at Arter, Istanbul, from June 24, 2026 to March 28, 2027. Curated by Selen Ansen, the exhibition brings together artists from different generations and geographies, approaching the sky not only as a physical phenomenon but also as a poetic and political image through which to reflect on hope, vulnerability, transformation, and coexistence.
Among the works on view is Untitled (from the Cracked Ground series) (2019), produced during İrwen's imprisonment in Diyarbakır Prison between 2017 and 2020. Composed of tea-stained fragments of paper stitched together with strands of the artist's own hair, the work reflects on memory, endurance, and resilience through an intimate yet powerful material language. Its fragile construction resonates closely with the exhibition's broader reflections on vulnerability, coexistence, and hope.
