Simon Wachsmuth in Höltzer’s Persia // Update: Iran

Simon Wachsmuth is part of the group exhibition Höltzer’s Persia // Update: Iran at the University Museum of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, opening on September 17, 2026, and running through February 28, 2027.

The exhibition brings together the photographic work of Ernst Höltzer (1835–1911) with contemporary artistic perspectives from Iran. Höltzer’s extensive photographic archive, documenting Persian and Armenian culture in the 19th century, is presented alongside works that reflect on photography, history, identity, and the ongoing geopolitical realities of the region.

Works by Ernst Höltzer are accompanied by works by Azadeh Akhlagi, Sonia Balassanian, Shadi Ghadirian, Tahmineh Monzavi, and, as guest artist, Simon Wachsmuth.

The exhibition is conceived and curated by Susanne Altmann and Dirk Schaal.
