Fatoş İrwen participates in We Should All Be Feminists at Austrian Cultural Office Istanbul
The international exhibition series Why >We Should All Be Feminists< was on view from October 17 to November 30, 2025, initiated by the Austrian Cultural Office Istanbul. Developed in the context of Austria’s commitments following the Istanbul Convention, the project brings together feminist artistic positions that critically address gender-based violence, inequality, and shifting social realities.
Curated by Sabine Fellner, with co-curation by Zeynep Sayın, the exhibition referenced Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s influential 2012 talk We Should All Be Feminists as a key point of departure, reflecting on both the progress achieved and the current global backlash against gender equality.
Fatoş İrwen presented her video work Şiryan, in which she performs a durational, bodily act of stitching and unstitching a motif onto her own hand. The work addresses memory, violence, and the fragile persistence of feminist resistance through the body.
