Selçuk Artut at the Büyük Öteki (The Big Other) exhibition (18/07/2025)
Curated by Beral Madra, the exhibition Büyük Öteki (The Big Other) was on view in Ayvalık from July 18 to August 30, 2025. in a former chapel that had long served as a storage space. Centering on French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan’s concept of the “Big Other,” the exhibition critically examined the external forces—state, law, religion, history, and the digital order—that shape individual lives. Addressing contemporary issues such as war policies, authoritarian regimes, discrimination, and polarization, the exhibition positions contemporary art as a space of resistance. Büyük Öteki brought together a diverse group of artists in a historic building, reimagining Ayvalık’s cultural memory through contemporary art.
