Simon Wachsmuth at The Back of the Treasure, Galerie im Körnerpark (28/06/2025)

Simon Wachsmuth takes part in The Back of the Treasure – On the Epistemology of the Cabinet of Curiosities, a group exhibition on view from June 28 to October 8, 2025, at Galerie im Körnerpark, Berlin. Curated by Jiaxing Chao with curatorial assistance from Ce Jian, the exhibition reconsiders the legacy of the cabinet of curiosities in light of contemporary art’s diversity and interconnectedness.

Exploring themes of materiality, knowledge, and historical display, the exhibition centers on Johann Melchior Dinglinger’s legendary Throne of the Grand Mogul (the Treasure) from Dresden’s Grünes Gewölbe. By presenting both its opulent front and the painterly, unfinished backside, the exhibition opens a dialogue between past forms of knowledge and today’s digital reinterpretations.

As part of Berlin Art Week, Wachsmuth will join art historian and sinologist Nora Wölfing for the talk “The Memory of Things – Body, Movement and Remembrance in Art”, on September 13, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.
