Pedro Gómez-Egaña at Steirischer Herbst ’25: Never Again Peace (18/09/2025)
Pedro Gómez-Egaña takes part in Steirischer Herbst ’25: Never Again Peace, running from September 18 to October 12, 2025, in Graz, Austria. This year’s exhibition is staged in the former Bauer distillery in the Gries district—an area marked by migration and political tensions—temporarily renamed BAU. The site’s layered history, once home to manufacturing rooms, police apartments, and offices, becomes a metaphor for a fragmented society, inviting visitors to navigate its many spaces and stories.
Gómez-Egaña presents Night at Dawn (2025), an installation inspired by Thomas Mann’s prewar novel The Magic Mountain (1924). Restaging the sanatorium setting as a stage-like interior, the work reflects on isolation, temporality, and vulnerability in the face of political and social fractures. The installation invites viewers to climb a mountain to reach a designated reading position, from which the interior unfolds as a landscape—an allegory for contemporary realities of uncertainty and dislocation.
