Yane Calovski at the Contemporary Art Gallery Zrenjanin, Serbia (27/08/2025)
Yane Calovski participated in the 70th edition of the Ečka Art Colony, one of Serbia’s oldest and most significant artist gatherings. The jubilee edition, Utopias of Collectivity (22 – 28 August 2025), was curated by Rena Rädle and Vladan Jeremić and culminated in an exhibition at the Contemporary Gallery Zrenjanin, opening on 27 August and remaining on view through October.
For this occasion, Calovski presented Common Ground (2025), a new installation that extends his ongoing exploration of archives, memory, and spatial rehearsal. Building on his earlier project Mise en Archive (Unfolding), the work unfolds as an expanded spatial essay, engaging with the layered histories of land use, ecological degradation, and collective memory in Zrenjanin and its surroundings.
The installation combines fragments of fallen buildings from the early 1900s, arranged in a classical, canonical composition to evoke resonance over resolution. In Common Ground, Calovski translates residual narratives of land, labour, and utopian collectivity into a form that listens, holds, and responds, proposing new ways of inhabiting and remembering.
