Itamar Gov’s All Blues but Prussian Blue joins Kunstmuseum Magdeburg’s permanent collection (14/06/2025)

All Blues but Prussian Blue by Itamar Gov has been acquired by Kunstmuseum Magdeburg for its permanent collection. The work consists of 100 monochrome paintings in varying shades of blue, with one deliberate omission: Prussian blue. As the uniform color of the Prussian army and a marker of European aristocracy, this pigment embodies notions of power and exclusivity. At the same time, it is tragically tied to the residue of Zyklon B on the walls of Nazi gas chambers. By excluding Prussian blue, Gov foregrounds the complex histories and ideological weight embedded in a single color, transforming absence into a critical gesture.

The installation is currently presented in Challenged Togetherness, a group exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of Kunstmuseum Magdeburg, curated by Benedikt Johannes Seerieder (June 14 – October 19, 2025).
