Itamar Gov’s Breker CCTV enters the collection of Kunsthalle Mannheim (16/08/2025)
Itamar Gov’s 16-channel video installation Breker CCTV has been acquired by Kunsthalle Mannheim and is being exhibited as part of the museum’s newly reinstalled permanent exhibition Fokus Sammlung: Jugendstilbau, on view from August 16, 2025 to August 30, 2026.
Positioned as a control room, Breker CCTV follows 16 sculpted figures realized between 1933 and 1945 by artists such as Arno Breker, Georg Kolbe, and Willy Meller. The installation interrogates the historical and political decisions that allowed these works to remain in place for more than 80 years, and reflects on the tensions between objective observation and subjective encounter. By weaving surveillance, intimacy, and unease, Gov’s installation invites viewers to reconsider how ideology is embodied in art and how its echoes persist in the landscapes of today.
