Itamar Gov at Kunstmuseum Magdeburg: The Rhinoceros in the Room (25/01/2026)

Between January 25 and March 11, 2026, Kunstmuseum Magdeburg invites Itamar Gov to take over the Romanesque monastery church within the museum complex. In this historic setting, Gov will unveil his new work The Rhinoceros in the Room, an installation that weaves together history, myth, religion, science, and spectacle. The work delves into notions of conformity, collective and individual responsibility, mass movements, mob mentality, and morality.

Exploring themes of authoritarianism, mythology, and epistemology, the project connects historical events, philosophical concepts, and local legends. Through these intertwined narratives, Gov probes the fragile boundaries between fact and fiction, memory and imagination.

The project is presented as part of Herausgeforderte Gemeinschaft / Challenged Togetherness, and is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
