Heba Y. Amin’s film As Birds Flying (2016) was presented as part of the second screening of Adwaa | Video Art Programme, held on February 8, 2026, at Hayy Jameel. Focusing on video art practices from the Arab region, the screening brought together artists engaging with the medium to reflect on social, political, and environmental contexts.
In As Birds Flying, Amin constructs an allegorical narrative using leaked drone footage and fabricated audio, reimagining the detached perspective of aerial surveillance over Gaza. The work critically examines the assumed neutrality of technological vision, revealing how systems of surveillance produce and impose ideological narratives onto contested landscapes.
