Isaac Chong Wai at Kollwitz Neu Sehen at the Kollwitz Museum Köln (21/02/2026)
From January 21 to March 15, 2026, Isaac Chong Wai presented his video installation DIE MÜTTER – Bildstörung #1 at the Kollwitz Museum Köln as part of the exhibition Kollwitz Neu Sehen. Inspired by Käthe Kollwitz’s 1921/22 woodcut Die Mütter, the work transforms her imagery of maternal care, protection, loss, and solidarity into a contemporary, transnational dialogue. Chong extends Kollwitz’s themes beyond their historical context, exploring motherhood, instinct, grief, resistance, and collective strength in the present day.
The video installation invites viewers to reflect on how collective care and resilience can transcend time and geography, while the circular choreography emphasizes connection, support, and shared experience. Visitors are drawn into an intimate space where historical memory and contemporary concerns merge through movement and sound.
