Janet Bellotto’s new solo exhibition in Venice: What the Water Keeps (11/06/2026)

Opened in Venice, Janet Bellotto’s solo exhibition What the Water Keeps will be on view at Sist – La Cappella, located just behind St. Mark’s Square.

Bringing together fragments of marine life collected from various islands, the exhibition continues Bellotto’s long-term investigation into coastal and archipelagic environments. Using 3D scans of shells, coral, and residual matter, the works translate fragile ecological conditions into evolving digital forms, presented at an enlarged scale within the setting of a former chapel.

At the core of the exhibition is the video work Ocean Dust, which employs photogrammetry and particle-based visualisation to trace cycles of erosion, accumulation, and return. Developed in Venice, the project resonates with the lagoon’s shifting ecology, positioning it within broader questions of environmental vulnerability, adaptation, and transformation across island geographies.
