Yaşam Şaşmazer featured in Sharjah Biennial 17 (17/06/2026)

Yaşam Şaşmazer is participating in Sharjah Biennial 17: What remains, sits restive, which will take place from January 21 to June 13, 2027 across the Emirate of Sharjah, UAE. Organized by Sharjah Art Foundation, the 17th edition of the biennial is shaped through two interconnected curatorial frameworks developed by Angela Harutyunyan and Paula Nascimento.

Taking place across multiple venues in Sharjah, the biennial explores how unresolved histories, suppressed narratives, and unfinished emancipatory projects continue to shape the present. Bringing together 109 artists and collectives, What remains, sits restive examines the intersections of history, memory, space, and political imagination from a range of perspectives.

Şaşmazer is included among the participants in Angela Harutyunyan's curatorial section. Harutyunyan's framework reflects on the afterlives of socialist modernity and the legacies of anti-colonial struggles, considering how artistic practices can open new ways of thinking about historical contradictions and modes of representation.
