Isaac Chong Wai presents An Intimate Surrender at Tai Kwun Contemporary (24/06/2026)
Isaac Chong Wai is presenting An Intimate Surrender at Tai Kwun Contemporary in Hong Kong, on view from 10 July to 9 August 2026, curated by Louiza Ho.
Developed from the artist’s recent performance-based practice, the exhibition revisits tensions embedded in human interaction through staging, corporeality, and memory. Drawing inspiration from the film Farewell My Concubine, the installation unfolds across a large-scale spatial environment composed of metal structures, mirrored surfaces, etched glass, and textiles.
Throughout the exhibition period, performers activate the space with choreographic movements referencing Peking Opera gestures, placing audiences in close bodily proximity to questions of identity, representation, and the fluidity of the body. The work constructs a multilayered environment in which memory, stage, and embodiment continuously intersect.
