Itamar Gov's The Rhinoceros is the Room embarks on a touring exhibition (07/07/2026)
Itamar Gov’s monumental installation The Rhinoceros is the Room. Or: A Tale of Banality and Evil will be exhibited in different spaces in Sachsen-Anhalt throughout the summer of 2026.
Inspired by Eugène Ionesco’s absurdist play Rhinoceros from 1959, the work reflects on conformity, authoritarianism, collective responsibility, and the quiet normalization of violence. At its centre is an oversized white rhinoceros, accompanied by a multi-channel sound composition by Bruno Delepelaire, First Cellist of the Berliner Philharmoniker, and the voice of contralto opera singer Noa Beinart.
Following its presentation in Halle, the rhinoceros will continue its journey to Salzwedel and Dessau. Curated by Annegret Laabs, the tour is initiated by Kunstmuseum Magdeburg, and supported by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes.
