Walid Siti at the Imperial War Museums (16/11/2017)

Walid Siti is among the artists shown in the group exhibition entitled “Age of Terror: Art since 9/11” which opened on October 26th at London’s Imperial War Museums (IWM). The exhibition, which focuses on the artists’ reactions to war and conflict in the post-9/11 era, includes the works of more than 40 British and international artists such as Ai Weiwei, Grayson Perry, Gerhard Richter, Jenny Holzer, Mona Hatoum, Alfredo Jaari and Jake & Dinos Chapman. Siti’s work “Floodland” (2017), commissioned by the IWM, can be viewed at the exhibition until May 28th. Drawing inspiration from traditional Islamic motifs, this work confronts visitors as a wall installation which signifies the fragility of victimized lands laid out on a fictional map. Constructed from thick cardboard, plaster and acrylics, this work draws attention to the atmospheres of uncertainty and violence in the geographies of the Middle East, while also referencing the changing balances of power and a future ensconced within a great uncertainty.
