Yane Calovski at Kunsthalle Wien (20/04/2023)

The comprehensive, international group exhibition No Feeling Is Final, The Skopje Solidarity Collection will revolve around the Museum of Contemporary Art Skopje’s unusual collection of modern works, how it came into being as well as the historical and political context. The exhibition unmasks some unconscious assumptions about what Western modern art can be while offering a surprising way of looking at familiar names and artists unknown to the modern canon.

For their spatial installation titled All Things Flowing, Yane Calovski and Hristina Ivanoska propose another look at the history of Skopje’s Museum of Contemporary Art. In 1966, 89 architectural projects were submitted to the open call for building the new museum. Oskar Hansen, known for his theory of the Open Form, imagined the gallery would rise and unfurl toward the sky whenever a new exhibition opened and otherwise be hidden below ground. This ambitious proposal formed the initial template for Yane Calovski’s motorized sculptural installation and Hristina Ivanoska’s large-scale mural of specially devised typography. The exhibition will be held at the Kunsthalle Wien from 20 April 2023 to 28 January 2024.
