Omar Barquet’s solo exhibition Oscillations at the Galería Adentro in Guadalajara (19/07/2024)
Curated by Christian Barragán and Juvenal Urzúa the exhibition Oscillations offers a panoramic view of Omar Barquet’s work related to the main stages of a cyclone and the presence of hurricanes during his childhood on the coasts of Mexico.
“I have spent a significant part of my time addressing a certain imagery from my childhood, trying to find in my memories some vital experience, discovering what one feels necessary to express from oneself, what has constituted you and how it has transformed you into who you are. In my case, it took me back to the story of the hurricanes I experienced as a child and teenager, the time I spent sheltered in a family commercial space where the intensity of the wind would hit the metal curtain, creating a strange and contrasting dialogue with the flashes generated by the piano notes of Chopin’s nocturnes coming from a battery-operated radio. This was for me a blend of elements and sensations that linger in my memory and which I then consciously chose to interpret in my work.” - Omar Barquet
