Cengiz Tekin, at the exhibition Sense of Earth  (14/09/2024)

Barbare Studio, founded by Barbare Vineyards, recently launched its inaugural exhibition, Sense of Earth, curated by T. Melis Golar, on September 14.

The exhibition is named after the French word “terroir,” which refers to the combination of factors such as soil, climate, and environment that give the wine its unique character; in other words, the taste comes from all of these elements sensed by the earth. The Sense of Earth exhibition calls for a univocal structure that harmoniously integrates with Barbare’s geography, climate, ecological diversity, borders, and history. It aims to gather information from nature, create a regulating force, cultivate, and observe.

Cengiz Tekin addresses the idea of maintaining or keeping an equal distance from all living beings by conveying the concept of the post-human through irony. Through the seesaw designed for Barbare Vineyards, the artist attempts to interpret nature’s balance through an unnatural situation. Since the object is stuck in the ground and cannot move up or down, it presents a structure that is disconnected from its purpose, unbalanced, and uncoordinated.

The Sense of Earth exhibition will be open until November 13th, allowing visitors to better understand Thrace's lands, establish and reinterpret mythological, biological, topographical, and linguistic relationships, and experience a sense of place.
