Neriman Polat at the Misafir (The Guest) exhibition at Meyman Mardin Art House (19/10/2024)

Meyman Mardin Art House opened its doors on October 19 with the exhibition Misafir (The Guest), located in the heart of historic Mardin. Dedicated to fostering a dialogue between global and local art practices, Meyman aims to creatively engage with Mardin’s rich cultural and social fabric, offering a platform where art transcends touristic narratives.

Curated by Nazlı Pektaş, Misafir critically examines the orientalist and masculine gaze imposed on Mardin, a city steeped in history as a crossroads on the Silk Road. The exhibition brings together both resident and visiting artists, reflecting on themes of hospitality, social perceptions of the "guest," and how feminist perspectives reimagine traditional notions of reception.

Organized in memory of the late artists Gülçin Aksoy and Sevinç Subaşı, the exhibition bridges cultural memory with contemporary meanings, offering a poignant tribute to their legacy.

The exhibition will be on view at Meyman Mardin Art House until November 23, 2024.
