Isaac Chong Wai’s solo exhibition Traces in Silence at Städtische Galerie Nordhorn (21/02/2025)
The Städtische Galerie Nordhorn is hosting an exhibition by Isaac Chong Wai, who was awarded the Art Prize of the City of Nordhorn in 2024.
In his artistic work, Isaac Chong Wai refers to global phenomena that are reflected in various ways in concrete interpersonal actions and deep personal feelings. Chong's art emerges at the boundary between the individual and the community, often exploring politically relevant topics. He transforms the political with the help of poetic language when he makes the exercise of power and violence in social systems tangible as a narrative about the vulnerability of the body.
For his exhibition in the Municipal Gallery, Chong has created a current selection of works entitled Traces in Silence in which the tensions between memory and historiography as well as the relationship between collective and individual memory can be experienced. The starting points include wounds from previous war destruction in public spaces as well as art historical motifs that deal with grief. The transformation into images, performances and objects not only challenges perception visually and mentally, but also addresses the body and emotions. The exhibition will be on view from February 21 to May 11, 2025.
