Itamar Gov at Georg Kolbe Museum’s 75th anniversary exhibition (26/05/2025)

The Georg Kolbe Museum marks its 75th anniversary with a landmark exhibition, curated by Dr. Julia Wallner, running from May 26 to September 22, 2025. This exhibition not only reflects on the museum’s rich history but also examines its evolving role in contemporary art discourse. Through a dynamic dialogue between historical and contemporary works, the show explores themes of sculpture, memory, and artistic legacy, offering fresh perspectives on the museum’s collection.

As part of the exhibition, Itamar Gov presents A Replica of the Original Madeleine of Marcel Proust, from 1921. Gov’s work investigates the relationship between objects and memory, referencing Proust’s famed literary motif of involuntary remembrance. By reinterpreting an everyday object, the piece challenges viewers to consider how personal and collective histories are shaped by material culture.
