Sandra del Pilar’s solo exhibition Wenn mein Glück aussetzt, bin ich verloren at Museum Wilhelm Morgner (25/05/2025)

Sandra del Pilar’s solo exhibition Wenn mein Glück aussetzt, bin ich verloren (If my luck does not hold, I am lost) is on view at Museum Wilhelm Morgner in Soest between May 25 and August 24, 2025.

Drawing inspiration from Bertolt Brecht’s „To Those Who Follow in Our Wake“, this exhibition builds upon themes explored in Sandra del Pilar’s 2024 exhibition Truly, I Live in Dark Times, which was presented at the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg in Halle (Saale). The exhibition reflects on the vulnerability of the individual in times of political upheaval and existential uncertainty. At the heart of the exhibition are Sandra del Pilar’s multilayered paintings. With translucent gauze overlaying detailed figurative scenes, her works explore how perception is shaped by perspective, context, and historical significance. The paintings respond to the viewer’s movement, simultaneously revealing and concealing. The exhibition encourages reflection on memory, resistance and humanity in times of crisis. It connects historical experience with present-day realities and resists resignation. As Brecht wrote: ‚What times are these, in which a conversation about trees is almost a crime?‘
