Sim Chi Yins Requiem exhibited in “Disobedience Archives” which continues to tour after Venice Biennale 2024 (10/05/2025)
Conceived in 2005 by Marco Scotini, Disobedience Archive functions as a mobile and expanded platform that explores the intersection of art and political action through audiovisual practices. As an archive, it invites a rethinking of how collective memory is organized, challenging the notion of the archive as an unquestionable record. Since its inception in 2005, Disobedience Archive has been presented at institutions around the world, most recently at the 2024 Venice Biennale. Following its presentation there, curator Marco Scotini has reconfigured the selection of video works for a new phase of the project, now traveling to various international venues as part of the archive’s ongoing evolution.
The exhibition at Kunsthal Charlottenborg Disobedience Archive (The Open Storage) is presented in an installation developed by visual artist Christopher McSherry featuring four themes: Diaspora Activism, Radical Ecologies, Gender Disobedience, and Insurgent Communities. Sim Chi Yin’s work appeared in the Diaspora Activism section, on view from March 19 to May 19. The exhibition is part of the HUMAN:RIGHTS initiative and supported by a range of Danish cultural foundations.
In the exhibition at PROA21, Buenos Aires, the Disobedience Archive (the street) features 36 artists and collectives across four intersecting themes focusing on the street as a public site of protest and memory: gender disobedience, insurgent communities, radical ecologies, and diaspora activism. Presented in rotating cycles, the exhibition creates a dynamic platform for local engagement and transnational dialogue. Disobedience Archive (the street) take place between May 10 – July 2025 at PROA21.
