Omar Barquet at Times Square Tower (01/06/2025)

In cooperation with Galeria Arróniz, Standard Arts has commissioned artist Omar Barquet to create a new site-specific work for the entry lobby of Times Square Tower, NYC.

Barquet, a contemporary artist based in Mexico, is known for his cross-disciplinary practice that spans painting, collage, printmaking, sculpture, and performance. Invited with the intention of transforming the building’s entrance into a serene counterpoint to the vibrant Times Square outside, Barquet proposed a diptych that evokes his childhood memories of the Mexican Caribbean.

The two-part painting captures a sunset in Cozumel and a sunrise in Chetumal —the town where he was born. Rendered in elegant geometric abstraction, the diptych poetically articulates the daily cycle of awakening and closure. By introducing these contemplative memories into one of the most active locations in the world, Barquet envisions a subtle interplay of contrasting intensities.
