Simon Wachsmuth at the Andalucia Center For Contemporary Art (16/11/2017)

Simon Wachsmuth’s video titled “Qing” (2016) is featured among other artists’ works in the group exhibition “A Thousand Roaring Beasts: Display Devices for a Critical Modernity,” currently on display at the Andalucia Center for Contemporary Art in Sevilla. Based on a personal story, his work deals with immigrants who can only take physical knowledge with them as part of their cultural heritage, and focuses on the concept of “the migration of gestures.” Exhibited alongside Wachsmuth are works from 24 artists including Ed Atkins, Walid Raad, Yto Barrada, Tacita Dean, and Lothar Baumgarten. The exhibition curated by Olga Fernadez Lopez can be viewed until March 4, 2018 at the Monument Zone and the North Cloister. It focuses on the power and the role of the exhibitions in the 20th century, highlighting ignored historical narratives.
