Antonio Cosentino at Istanbul Modern and Protocinema (16/11/2017)

Within the scope of the Ülker-sponsored Istanbul Modern program “Your Thursday,” held on October 19, Antonio Cosentino led a workshop between 4-6 PM. For the workshop, the artist—who began his career as a painter—invited participants to produce a collective work using tin, a material that Cosentino has used frequently since 1999. The program began with the artist sharing the production techniques of his works resembling the processes of an architect or an engineer, and ended with the formation of a museum structure design made from tin. “Your Thursday” program shares the creative processes and artistic experiences of artists with participants, and consists of short talks and art workshops.

Co-curated by İbrahim Cansızoğlu and organized by Protocinema, “For Rent, For Sale” exhibition was held at the old “Hamursuz Fırını” in Istanbul between September 9-14. By following material changes and listening to the sounds of the city, the exhibition examined present-day urban transformation together with its causes and results via visual conceptualizations. The works of Ani Çelik Arevyan, Gülşah Mursaloğlu, Antonio Cosentino and the Sound of Istanbul Project were featured in the exhibition. Exhibited in the show, Cosentino’s work established a narrative by telling a short story for the aftermath of the semblance of an imaginary wall dividing Istanbul into two. Cosentino’s story was presented to the audience as part of an installation he created based around bottle caps collected in Berlin and Istanbul, various objects, drawings and a reading corner. These pieces constituted a hesitation towards uncertain times to come.
