Chi Yin Sim won the 2020 Jimei X Arles Discovery Award (21/02/2021)


Chi Yin Sim won the 2020 Jimei X Arles Discovery Award. She will present a solo exhibition at the 2021 Les Rencontres d’Arles in France. The exhibition will be curated by Liu Xiao, who stated in an interview: “The two works ‘Most People Were Silent’ and ‘The Shifting Sands’ on display are traces of reality left by the modern national and global processes, like advancing historical machines. It is a thick document of heavyweight history. Chi Yin Sim's works are the aesthetic integration of landscape aesthetics and world political and economic imagery (…).” Sim was selected by a jury of experts consisting of Christoph Wiesner (Director of Les Rencontres d’Arles), Gu Zheng (Professor of Fudan University, Art Director of 2020 Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival), Lu Yinghua (Director of Beijing Inside-out Art Museum), Liu Bolin (Contemporary Artist), RongRong (Photographer, Co-founder of Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival, Co-founder of Three Shadows Photography Art Centre), Wang Huangsheng (Professor of Central Academy of Fine Arts, Chief Director of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts).
