Carlos Aires' solo exhibition BLIND at Sabrina Amrani Gallery (28/02/2025)
Carlos Aires presents his solo exhibition BLIND at Sabrina Amrani Gallery from February 28 to April 12, 2025. The exhibition explores themes of perception, mortality, and the fragility of sight, underscored by Aires's own personal experience with blindness. The title piece uses paper lanterns adorned with archival images of global catastrophes, flashing in rhythm with the gallery’s light, inviting reflection on what is unseen. The show combines visual tension and contradiction, questioning the space between presence and absence, light and darkness.
In this series of works, as in much of his practice, the question is not only what we see but what remains obscured, and how the gaps in our perception shape our understanding of the world. Aires’s practice operates as a counterpoint to the daisy chain of cultural complacency and is a refusal to perpetuate the hollow rituals of aesthetic conformity.
