Heba Y. Amin realized her performance titled ‘Operation Sunken Sea’ as part of ‘FRIENDLY CONFRONTATIONS: FESTIVAL OF GLOBAL ART AND CRITICISM OF INSTITUTIONS’ curated by Julia Grosse and Julian Warner at Münchner Kammerspiele. The performance took place on 18 January 2020.
‘Operation Sunken Sea’ proposes a large-scale infrastructural intervention to drain and relocate the Mediterranean Sea within the African continent, referencing and expanding upon early-twentieth-century techno-utopian visions. Amin investigates significant transformations in territorial constructs and their impact on new geopolitical alliances and global politics.
